A body of work that I am currently working on consisting of welded steel wire and other industrial materials used to sculpt the animals of the Chinese zodiac.

The entire series will be created using steel wire (a range between 9, 12, and 14 gauge). The techniques I’ve developed allow me to 1) use a combination of tightly welded wire strands to bring out clarity and form, along with 2) a looser way of welding the wire to communicate movement, transition, and makes the appearance of the sculpture “fade” (which is where I derived the name of the series).

In previous works, I’ve incorporated similar ideas, only using the word “broken” instead of “faded” (see BROKEN GUARDIAN). I feel this is my way of communicating a part of my life where major change have not only occurred but multiple major changes have occurred all at once (e.g. becoming a father, moving my family to another country, setting up a new life, etc.). So it symbolizes my old life fading as my new life comes into focus with clarity and form. I use the reoccurring motif throughout my work, the animals of the Chinese zodiac, to also communicate that connection I have to the Chinese culture (especially having lived almost 2 decades in the Middle Kingdom).
