With over 16 years of teaching experience at an international school in Shanghai, I have worked with students ranging from middle school through advanced high school levels, including IB and AP courses. My teaching approach emphasizes both strong technical foundations and creative exploration, guiding students through a wide range of media and processes.
I specialize in drawing, painting, digital art and design, and three-dimensional work, with experience in graphite, colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil painting, clay, and wire sculpture. With a background in graphic design, I also incorporate digital tools and visual communication principles into my teaching. I believe in teaching the full artistic process—from building armatures and stretching canvases to developing ideas, refining technique, and professionally presenting finished work.
In addition to studio practice, I integrate art history and visual analysis into my lessons, helping students understand the broader context of their work while developing their own artistic voice. I also have extensive experience in curriculum development, exhibition design, and guiding students in showcasing their work through gallery-style presentations. I have successfully mentored students in building competitive portfolios for art school applications, helping them gain acceptance into top art programs in the U.S., Canada, and the UK.
My goal is to create a structured yet inspiring environment where students gain confidence, develop technical skill, and learn to see and think like artists.
