Artist Statement

Memories, like wildlife, are often caught only in glimpses. Trace (Buck) manifests this elusiveness using the skeletal weightlessness of welded steel wire and round bar. The sculpture functions as a physical drawing in space, capturing the urgent, gestural quality of a pencil sketch. As the viewer moves around the piece, the solid form dissolves into open, expressive lines. In this quiet tension between presence and absence, the deer becomes a monument to the fleeting moments that define our internal landscape.
